DIMAPUR — The Deputy Commissioner of Niuland has declared the 2×5 MW Hovukhu Solar Power Plant a restricted area in the interest of public safety and security.
According to an order issued through the DIPR on Tuesday, the plant contains high-voltage electrical equipment that can be extremely hazardous upon contact, particularly during foggy or rainy weather when transmission through air is possible. It stated that solar power installations generally operate on direct current (DC), which can be dangerous in case of leakages, and therefore security fencing has been installed at prescribed distances to prevent accidents and damage to property.
The order also noted that the plant is vulnerable to lightning strikes, with precautionary notices placed along the fence and near high-voltage equipment. Despite these safety measures, it was observed that members of the public have been entering the premises without authorisation, posing serious risks to human life and to the sensitive equipment installed at the site.
In view of this, the Deputy Commissioner announced that the solar power plant has been designated a restricted area. Any unauthorised entry or trespassing will invite legal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and other relevant provisions of the law, it said.
