KOHIMA — As part of National Sports Day celebrations, the Department of Youth Resources and Sports (DYRS) on Friday honoured 151 meritorious sportspersons with cash awards at a ceremony held at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima.

Advisor for Youth Resources and Sports, S Keoshu Yimkhiung, who attended the event as special guest, congratulated the athletes for their achievements and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to building a strong sporting ecosystem.

He said the recognition was not only financial support but also a message that “efforts matter, dreams are valued, and achievements will be celebrated.”

The advisor also urged the Police department to explore job opportunities for promising athletes and informed that a new Nagaland Sports Policy, aligned with the national framework, is in the pipeline.

Guest of Honour, Director General of Police Rupin Sharma, stressed the need for private partnerships to support athletes, pointing out that limited economic activity in the state restricts opportunities outside the government sector. He said Nagaland Police would soon recruit sportspersons and integrate them into training and coaching roles.

Sharma presented prizes to winners of the August 27 Athletic Meet, while Yimkhiung gave away the cash awards to the 151 sportspersons across various disciplines.
