Nagaland: Heavy rain likely in Kohima, Tuensang as NSDMA issues fresh weather alert

DIMAPUR — The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of the state over the next four days, warning of possible landslides, flash floods and waterlogging, particularly in vulnerable areas.

In a weather outlook issued on Monday, the NSDMA advised citizens to remain vigilant from July 28 to 31, as several districts are expected to experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and varying intensities of rainfall.

According to the forecast, Mokokchung and Tseminyu are likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall at most places on Tuesday (July 28), while moderate rainfall is also expected in parts of Longleng, Mon, Niuland, Noklak, Peren, Tuensang, Wokha and Zunheboto. Localised thunderstorms with lightning and light rain are expected across most other districts.

Weather activity is expected to intensify on Wednesday (July 29), with Kohima likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations.

Thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rain are also forecast across much of the state, while Mon, Noklak, Peren, Tseminyu and Zunheboto may receive widespread rainfall.

On Thursday (July 30), Tuensang is expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations, although rainfall activity is likely to ease in several other districts, with only light to moderate showers expected in many areas.

Conditions are expected to improve on Friday (July 31), with light to moderate rainfall forecast at a few places across the state. However, isolated thunderstorms and showers may continue over Meluri, Mokokchung, Phek, Peren, Tseminyu, Wokha and Zunheboto. No active weather warnings have been issued for Kiphire, Noklak and Shamator on that day.
