DIMAPUR — Amid mounting public concern over a series of sexual assault cases involving women and minor girls in Nagaland, Governor Nand Kishore Yadav on Saturday convened a high-level review meeting with Director General of Police (DGP) Rupin Sharma at Lok Bhavan, directing the police to intensify efforts to curb such crimes and ensure swift justice for victims.
The review comes at a time when several recent incidents—including the alleged sexual assault of a minor girl in Dimapur, the rape of an elderly woman in Kiphire, another alleged sexual assault of aminor girl by a church leader from Kohima, and the ongoing controversy surrounding sexual harassment allegations against IAS officer Reny Wilfred—have sparked statewide protests, memoranda from civil society organisations and calls for faster investigations and stricter accountability.
According to a Lok Bhavan press release, the governor expressed deep concern over the increasing number of reported cases of sexual assault against women, particularly minor girls, and reviewed the prevailing law and order situation with the DGP.
He stressed the need for swift, effective and exemplary action against perpetrators, underscoring that the safety and security of women and children must remain a priority.

Calling for greater vigilance, Yadav urged the police to intensify efforts to curb crimes against women and children while promoting public awareness and community participation in preventing such offences.
During the meeting, DGP Rupin Sharma briefed the governor on the current law and order situation, ongoing investigations and measures being undertaken by the police to strengthen the protection of women and children across the state.
Reiterating the government's resolve, the governor said that crimes against women and children must be dealt with firmly and every effort should be made to create a safe and secure environment for all citizens.
