DIMAPUR — An Eastern Mirror report highlighting prolonged delays in the issuance of Unique Disability ID (UDID) cards in Peren district has prompted intervention from Governor Nand Kishore Yadav, resulting in three pending beneficiaries receiving their cards within a week.
According to a press release issued on Friday by PRO, Lok Bhavan, the governor took cognisance of the issue after the EM report detailed how procedural delays were preventing persons with disabilities (PwDs) from accessing welfare schemes, rehabilitation support and assistive devices linked to the UDID system.
Acting on the matter, the governor directed the department of Social Welfare and the department of Health & Family Welfare to ensure that the pending UDID cards of Kerehunglungle, Nchayi Kuame and Keligumbe Hairangbuing were processed and issued within seven days, by May 29.
It stated that all three beneficiaries have now successfully received their UDID cards following the intervention.

The Lok Bhavan communiqué added that the departments are also coordinating with the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) to facilitate assistive devices and other required support for the beneficiaries based on their individual needs.
The intervention has brought relief to the affected families by enabling access to government welfare schemes, assistance programmes and rehabilitation support tied to the UDID system, it stated.
The governor lauded the department of Social Welfare and the department of Health & Family Welfare for resolving the matter within the stipulated timeframe through coordinated efforts.
He also reiterated the need for timely delivery of essential services to PwDs and directed the departments to continue addressing procedural delays affecting beneficiaries in the district.
