Nagaland received INR 183.65 crore additional NDRF assistance in 2025-26, while Centre released SDRF and mitigation funds
KOHIMA — Nagaland received an additional INR 183.65 crore from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) for disaster relief during 2025-26, Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai informed the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
According to the ministry, Nagaland's allocation under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), including the Centre and state's share, stood at INR 44.80 crore during 2025-26, of which the Centre released INR 40 crore.
The state was also allocated INR 11.20 crore under the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF), including the Centre and state's share. Of this, the Centre released INR 10 crore, while INR 27.24 crore was released under the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NMDF).
According to the ministry, disaster management and the distribution of relief assistance remain the primary responsibility of state governments, while the Centre supplements these efforts through logistical and financial support. Additional assistance from the NDRF is provided for disasters of "severe nature" after assessment by an Inter-Ministerial Central Team.

During 2024-25, Nagaland received INR 181.81 crore from the NDRF. The state's SDRF allocation was INR 42.40 crore, while the Centre released INR 38.40 crore as its share.
Nagaland is among the states covered under the National Landslide Risk Mitigation Project, which has an approved outlay of INR 1,000 crore, although the first instalment has so far been released only to Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Manipur and Sikkim.
The state has also received the first instalment under the Forest Fire Risk Management Mitigation Scheme, which has a total approved outlay of INR 818.92 crore, and is included in the National Project for Strengthening Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction Initiatives in Panchayati Raj Institutions.
