DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Health Protection Society (NHPS) has raised concerns over recent modifications to haemodialysis packages under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY), stating that the changes could pose operational challenges for hospitals and inconvenience patients.
In a press release issued on Monday, the NHPS stated that the National Health Authority (NHA), under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, has introduced a set of revisions aimed at ensuring uniformity across states and curbing misuse or malpractices.
The changes include limiting the number of dialysis cycles per pre-authorisation to six, mandating two bio-authentications per cycle at entry and exit, and restricting the maximum permissible duration between entry and exit to four hours.
While expressing support for efforts to enhance accountability and transparency, the NHPS suggested that the revised norms may create practical difficulties in implementation.

“Operational challenges for hospitals and inconvenience for patients” could arise under the new system, it stated.
The NHPS informed that it has submitted a request to the NHA to review the modifications to ensure that accountability measures do not come at the cost of patient convenience. A response from the authority is awaited.
It also clarified that the insurance company involved in the scheme does not have the authority to introduce systemic changes or policy alterations in this matter.
