Nagaland fighters set to compete at 34th Senior National Wushu Championship in Jaipur

Two fighters from Nagaland will represent the state at the 34th Senior National Wushu Championship in Jaipur from June 14 to the 19th.

  • KOHIMA — Nagaland will be represented by two athletes at the 34th Senior National Wushu Championship, scheduled to take place from June 14 to the 19th, at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, Rajasthan.

  • Organised by the Wushu Association of India in collaboration with the Rajasthan Wushu Association (RWA), the championship is expected to see the participation of approximately 1,200 players from across the country, according to RWA President Hiranand Kataria.

    The players along with coach, manager and officials from the Department of Youth Resources & Sports at Dimapur airport on Friday.


  • The event is being organised by the Wushu Association of India in collaboration with the Rajasthan Wushu Association. According to the organisers, around 1,200 players from across the country are expected to compete in the championship.

  • Representing Nagaland are 24-year-olds Mankho T Konyak and Nupa Kiho. Konyak, who will compete in the 52 kg category, is making his third appearance at the national championship. Kiho will compete in the 56 kg category, having reached the pre-quarterfinals in his previous appearance.

  • The team is accompanied by coach RK Shanti Kumar and team manager Akhozo. The contingent departed from Nagaland on Friday for the national event.

  • Before their departure, the athletes were seen off at the airport by officials from the Youth Resources & Sports Department, including Deputy Director Jakedovo Chase and Assistant Director Nyuvitho Nyuthe. The officials extended their best wishes, encouraging the players to stay focused, disciplined, and determined, and reminded them that they carry the hopes of the state on their shoulders.

  • President of the Nagaland Wushu Association (NWA), Kudecho Khamo, also conveyed a message of encouragement to the athletes, urging them to give their best and uphold the spirit of sportsmanship. He emphasised the significance of their participation at one of the country’s top national sporting platforms.

  • Earlier this year, Rajasthan hosted the 18th State Senior Wushu Competition in Pushkar from March 21 to the 23rd, with 250 athletes from 23 districts participating.
