Nagaland Excise department seizes cough syrup worth INR 30 lakh

DIMAPUR — In what could be termed as one of the biggest seizures of codein-based cough syrup in recent times in Nagaland, the personnel of Kohima Excise manning Khuzama inter-state check gate intercepted an Assam registered vehicle bearing registration No. AS-02-DC-4619 and recovered around 12,000 bottles of codein-based cough syrup neatly packed inside 100 cartoon boxes worth INR 30 lakh in the domestic market on September 27.

An update from the department stated that the driver of the vehicle identified as Merajul Islam (20) and a resident of Nagoan district in Assam was apprehended and subsequently a case was registered under relevant section of the NDPS Act 1985. It added that the case is now under active investigation.
