Electronic Voting Machines and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail have been randomised for the Koridang by-election as part of measures to ensure free and fair polls.

DIMAPUR — With preparations for the Koridang by-election underway, authorities have completed the first randomisation of EVMs and VVPATs to be deployed in the constituency.
A press release issued by the chief electoral officer (CEO), Nagaland, on Friday informed that the process was carried out on March 19 by the district election officer of Mokokchung, in line with guidelines of the Election Commission of India.
It stated that the randomisation was conducted through EVM management system in the presence of representatives of recognised national and state political parties to ensure transparency in allocation.

Following the exercise, constituency-wise lists of the machines have been shared with political parties at the district headquarters.
The EVMs and VVPATs will subsequently be handed over to the returning officers and assistant returning officers for election use.
The machines will be stored in designated strong rooms under strict security, again in the presence of party representatives.
It added that after the finalisation of contesting candidates, the list of the randomised EVMs and VVPATs will also be shared with all candidates.
The first randomisation is part of the multi-stage process aimed at ensuring free and fair conduct of elections.
