DIMAPUR — An elderly Naga man was assaulted by a non-local at Diphupar village on Saturday evening around 6 pm.
According to Diphupar Police, the victim had gone to a shop to buy chicken when the accused, seated nearby, told the shopkeeper not to sell on credit.
This sparked an argument, during which the accused allegedly picked up a stone and struck the man on the head. The victim collapsed and was rushed to the hospital.
The accused was later taken to the Diphupar Naga Youth Organisation office for questioning, where he admitted to the assault and assured that he would bear all medical expenses.
He was subsequently handed over to the police.
A commotion broke out outside the office as an agitated crowd demanded the accused be handed over to them.
Police, however, managed to bring the situation under control and escorted him to the station. He is currently in judicial custody.
