Kohima College and other institutions in Kohima, Chümoukedima, and Mokokchung host graduation ceremonies, fresher's days, and cultural celebrations.
DIMAPUR/MOKOKCHUNG — Multiple educational institutions across Kohima, Chümoukedima, and Mokokchung organised graduation ceremonies, fresher's day programmes, and cultural events.
Oriental College: Oriental College, Kohima, observed its third graduation day on July 31. The special guest for the event was Dr. Watinungshi Jamir, retired Additional Director of the Department of Higher Education.
According to an update, around 67 graduates, along with their parents and guardians, attended the ceremony.
Vice Principal (Academics) Dr. Kevizakielie Suokhrie announced the awards in various categories. Kuluthilu Rakho was awarded for being the Nagaland University subject topper in 2026 in Tenyidie, while Vituozo Rio of the Commerce department was named the best graduate of the 2023-26 batch. Graduation certificates were also presented to all graduates.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Jamir congratulated the graduates and stated that they can now use their degree certificates, which are internationally recognised, to face the world.
He encouraged the graduates as they step into a world run by AI, advising them not to let technology control their lives. He reminded them that they are entering an era of unprecedented change in climate, politics, economy, and technology. He added that despite the convenience of AI, individuals must leave room for creativity.

Dr. Jamir highlighted the importance of lifelong learning, stating that the day one stops learning is the day one stops growing.
Kohima College: Kohima College organised its 57th freshers' day on Saturday at the college courtyard on the theme "New beginnings, endless possibilities".
Principal Dr. Vitsosie Vüpru delivered a welcome address, welcoming the newly admitted 779 students and encouraging them to take full advantage of the college facilities. Greetings were also shared by the ANCSU President, Kivika Yeptho.
The chief guest for the event was Advisor for School Education Kekhrielhoulie Yhome. Speaking on the occasion, Yhome spoke on the aspirations and potential of Gen Z, highlighting the importance of adaptability, skills, and systems thinking in the 21st century.
He encouraged students to become socially responsible leaders, engage with contemporary issues, and use information with purpose. Pointing out the limited availability of government jobs, he urged students to explore entrepreneurship and opportunities beyond the state. He also highlighted the need to preserve cultural identity and encouraged students to embrace diversity.
Kesanelie and Lochumlo were crowned Mr. and Miss Freshers Kohima College 2026, respectively.
The induction of the newly elected KCSC executives for 2026-27 was conducted by Medoseno Thapo, Assistant Professor and Secretary of the Student Welfare Committee.
Outgoing General Secretary of the KCSC, Yeshika Achumi, presented the annual report and handed over charge to the newly elected General Secretary, Wati Lkr.
Norman Putsure College: Norman Putsure College, Chümoukedima, celebrated its freshers' day on Saturday on the theme "Enchanted bloom".
Principal Dr. Timothy Langwangbe, speaking on the occasion, encouraged the newcomers to be fearless, embrace academic excellence and personal growth, and actively participate in campus life.
The formal session featured a welcome song by the seniors, a speech by Mark Kikon representing the seniors, and a musical performance. Temsunenla Jamir delivered a speech on behalf of the incoming students.
S Tsoiniu Grace Khiam from the Department of Sociology and Machiting from the Department of Political Science were crowned Mr. and Miss Freshers 2026, respectively.
Sharon Apon and Moaakum were declared the first runners-up, while Temsunenla Jamir and Enithung were adjudged the second runners-up.
Eden Academy: Eden Academy in Mokokchung observed its senior cultural day on July 31 in conjunction with pre-Tsüngremmung, featuring the traditional Arr Yimdong Sü (vine-pulling procession).
The procession started at Jubilee Memorial College in Aongza and concluded at Eden Academy in Kumlong, with students, teachers, guests, and community members participating.
Guest of honour and District Cultural Officer Moses Newmai explained that the procession historically symbolised the community's collective endeavour to drive away evil spirits and illness from the village while preparing to receive blessings. He noted that the tradition continues to foster a shared sense of purpose and reinforce cultural identity.
Speaking to the students, Newmai stated that culture forms the foundation of identity and urged the senior students to uphold the values of unity, integrity, hard work, and community bonding.
Eden Academy Administrator I Temsu Jamir stated that the school organises two cultural days each year: one before Moatsü for students up to Grade 3 and another during Tsüngremmung for senior students. He added that the event held special significance for Grade 10 students as their final cultural programme at the school.
The event also featured cultural songs, dances, and plays presented by the students.
