The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee held protests across the state against the FIR registered against Rahul Gandhi, calling it politically motivated and defending democratic rights.
DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), in compliance with a directive from the All India Congress Committee (AICC), organised a protest march in Kohima and other districts on Tuesday against the FIR registered against Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.
Addressing the gathering, Lok Sabha MP and NPCC president S Supongmeren Jamir criticised the FIR filed against Gandhi following complaints by BJP workers, describing the action as pColitically motivated and an attempt to intimidate and silence the Opposition, the NPCC stated in a press release.
Jamir asserted that the Congress would not be intimidated by such actions and would continue to stand for democracy, justice and the constitutional right to question those in power.
He also expressed solidarity with Gandhi and AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, stating that attempts to suppress democratic dissent through legal or political pressure would be opposed through democratic means.

The protest also called for appropriate legal action against those responsible for the Haldwani incident in Uttarakhand, as highlighted in the AICC directive.
As part of the state-wide programme, protest marches were also organised by District Congress Committees in various parts of Nagaland, including Dimapur, Tuensang and Kiphire. Party leaders and workers participated in the protests in solidarity with Rahul Gandhi.
“The NPCC reiterates that the Indian National Congress will continue to defend democratic values, constitutional rights and the freedom of the Opposition to raise the voice of the people without fear or intimidation,” the release stated.
