Mokokchung DCC condemns the FIR against Rahul Gandhi in Haldwani, calling it retaliatory action and demanding its immediate withdrawal.
MOKOKCHUNG — The Mokokchung District Congress Committee (DCC) has condemned the registration of an FIR in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, against Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.
In a statement, the Mokokchung DCC Media Cell described the FIR as a retaliatory legal action following Gandhi’s demand for strict legal accountability over a reported “purification ritual” conducted at Ramlila Ground in Haldwani after a public meeting addressed by AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge.
The DCC said demanding accountability for such acts, which it described as regressive and an affront to the dignity of a prominent Dalit leader, was the responsibility of any leader committed to social justice and constitutional equality.
Instead of taking action against those allegedly perpetuating caste-based prejudice, the DCC questioned why the state machinery had “turned around” to book the leader who had raised the issue of social justice and constitutional safeguards.
The Mokokchung DCC alleged that the FIR amounted to a misuse of law enforcement provisions and an attempt by the ruling dispensation to silence dissent and divert attention from what it described as the normalisation of anti-Dalit attitudes.
The DCC further stated that such “intimidatory tactics” would neither suppress Gandhi’s voice nor weaken the Congress party’s resolve to oppose caste discrimination, prejudice and political authoritarianism.
“We demand the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of the fabricated FIR registered at Haldwani against Rahul Gandhi,” the DCC stated.
The Mokokchung DCC also urged citizens to stand firm in defending the values of fraternity, dignity and justice enshrined in the Constitution of India.
