Nagaland Community Conserved Areas Forum observes Earth Day in Chümoukedima
The Nagaland Community Conserved Areas Forum (NCCAF) marked Earth Day with a day-long event at the Naga United Village Council Hall in Chümoukedima

Members of the Nagaland Community Conserved Areas Forum
gathered at the Naga United Village Council Hall in Chümoukedima on April 22 to
observe Earth Day.
- DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Community Conserved
Areas Forum (NCCAF) marked Earth Day with a day-long event at the Naga United
Village Council Hall in Chümoukedima, centred on the theme “Investing in our
planet, securing our future”.
- According to an update on the occasion, a brief history of
the NCCAF was shared by Heirang Lungalang, chairman of the NCCAF, who mentioned
that the forum, established in November 2014, began with the protection of five
designated zones.
- The keynote address was delivered by Supongnukshi Ao, Chief
Conservator of Forests and Project Director of the Forest and Biodiversity
Management in the Himalayas – Nagaland Project, who underscored the urgent need
to conserve endangered species, manage water resources sustainably, and adopt
environmentally responsible practices.
- He highlighted the importance of community ownership in
conservation initiatives and acknowledged the support of the German development
agency KfW in advancing Earth Day activities in the region.
- He also addressed the challenges posed by Nagaland’s diverse
geography and climate, identifying human activity and pollution as primary
drivers of global warming. He urged communities to make informed and
sustainable choices, particularly in conserving plant life and water resources.
