KOHIMA — Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio expressed willingness to provide more funds to the Mechanical department for the functioning of the Modern Mechanical Workshop-cum-Training Institute (MMWTI).
He stated this in his reply to a starred question asked by MLA Nuklutoshi on the Modern Mechanical Workshop-cum-Training Institute during the eighth session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
Rio said that the state has an unemployment problem and opined that Nagas work on what they want to and do not do what is available, which is why many non-Nagas are employed in Nagaland while local Nagas remain unemployed.
He appreciated the functioning of the MMWTI and the training given to youths on heavy machinery and mechanics.

“If the department needs more funds to train the youths, I will be most willing to support”, he assured.
Mechanical Engineering Minister P Bashangmongba, replying to MLA Nuklutoshi, said the Modern Mechanical Workshop-cum-Training Institute was inaugurated on September 25, 2025 and is fully functional.
He informed that in collaboration with the Nagaland Skills and Entrepreneurship Development Mission, the institute trained 45 local youths in the operation and maintenance of heavy vehicles and machinery during October–December 2025.
The youths were trained in trades such as backhoe loader, track excavator operator, tipper truck driver, tandem road roller operator, and heavy machinery mechanic, and were awarded certificates. Trainee mobilisation is underway for the second batch.
