workshop on New Waqf Amendment Act 2025 in Dimapur on Wednesday.
- DIMAPUR — The
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Nagaland state on Wednesday organised a state level
workshop on Waqf Amendment Act 2025 at its office in Dimapur.
- An update from the party stated that the workshop was
attended by state office bearers, state spokespersons, state council members,
state morcha office bearers, Dimapur district office bearers, Dimapur district
morcha presidents and general secretaries and Dimapur district mandal presidents
and general secretaries.
- H Haiying, state vice president and former MLA as well as
state convenor of WAQF Amendment Act 2025 awareness campaign committee, was the
speaker of the workshop. He stated that the new Waqf Amendment Act 2025 has
positive impacts on societies.
- He pointed out that the new Amendment Act 2025 was to
rationalise the extraordinary and arbitrary powers of the Waqf Board, which was
a one sided law. He maintained that the old law lacked transparency and
accountability in the administration of Waqf property.

- He informed that the present NDA government under the
leadership of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has amended the arbitrary powers
of Waqf Board by omitting Section 40 of 1995 Act. He said the new law mandated
public notice of 90 days in daily newspapers before altering any land records
for the purpose of its registration as WAQF to avoid future encroachment,
violation and litigation.
- The speaker also stated that the Act proposed a centralised
portal and database to consolidate details of all Waqf property nationwide by
enhancing transparency and oversight. He added that new Act seek to abolish
those clauses which are detrimental to the welfare of the larger Muslims
communities.
- He informed that the new Waqf Amendment Act would have
uniform registration process that guarantees a unified national records and
improved accountability in Waqf administration.
- He further stated that the Act would promote women and
weaker sections of Muslims community and also strengthen women's position by
expanding the definition of welfare from Waqf income to explicitly include
maintenance for widows, divorce women and orphans. It also ensured that family
endowment (Waqf -Alal-Aulad) cannot be used to deny inheritance right to women.
