DIMAPUR — The 25th anniversary celebration of the Medziphema Town Women Organisation (MTWO) was held at the local ground, Medziphema town, on Tuesday, with Zhaleo Rio, Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, attending as the special guest
.
In his keynote address, the special guest articulated a vision that transcended ceremonial reflection, situating the jubilee within a broader moral and societal framework, an update stated.
Zhaleo characterised such milestones not merely as commemorative markers but as solemn occasions of thanksgiving and introspection, moments that call for both a candid appraisal of past endeavours and a renewed commitment to future advancement.
Reflecting on the historical and political significance of Medziphema as one of the oldest subdivisions and a vital nucleus of regional political engagement, he urged the leadership to embody an ethos of inclusivity that accommodates the town’s diverse demographic fabric.
He observed that the coexistence of varied tribal identities within Medziphema constitutes not a challenge, but a profound strength, one that reinforces a shared and cohesive Naga identity.

Addressing the broader socio-political landscape, the advisor asserted that the aspirations of the Naga people remain intrinsically unified and cautioned against the persistence of divisive tendencies that undermine collective progress.
Zhaleo called for a conscious departure from parochial “isms” within institutions and community bodies, emphasising that women play a vital role in fostering peace, harmony, and the overall advancement of a progressive society.
Additionally, he emphasised the necessity of institutional synergy, urging municipal and town councils across Nagaland to foster constructive collaboration with executive officers to ensure efficient, transparent, and accountable governance.
He highlighted the progressive initiatives undertaken by the Government of Nagaland in advancing women’s empowerment, noting that the assurance of freedom, equality of status, and economic agency forms the bedrock of a just and equitable society.
In this context, he noted that the implementation of 33 percent reservation for women in Urban Local Bodies (ULB) elections stands as a defining milestone in the democratic evolution of Nagaland.
He further acknowledged that these transformative measures are a testament to the chief minister’s visionary leadership and enduring commitment, both at the governmental and party levels, towards the advancement and empowerment of women in Naga society.
He also stressed that the empowerment of women must be firmly anchored in universal access to education, which remains the most potent instrument of social transformation and equitable progress.
The special guest was accompanied by Charlie Sekhose, senior vice president, NPF Central, along with senior party workers and functionaries from 5 Ghaspani-II Assembly Constituency, the ADC Medziphema, representatives of civil society organisations, area leaders, and village leaders.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Rüüzeü Khate, president, MTWO.
Devilhoutono Thakro, president of the Chakhroma Women Organisation, inaugurated the jubilee proceedings.
The jubilee souvenir was released by P James Swu, additional deputy commissioner, Medziphema.
Special performances were presented by the Medziphema Town Angamimiapfü Krotho, Medziphema Town Students’ Union, Egsibeni Lotha, and a presentation by the Kuki community of Medziphema town.
