  • DIMAPUR — The second federal assembly of Naga Hoho was held on March 28 at Tourist Lodge, Dimapur, during which it was resolved to oppose the scrapping of the Indo-Myanmar Free Movement regime (FMR) and constructing fencing walls with the intention to alienate Nagas of India from the Nagas of Myanmar.

  • The Naga Hoho demanded an immediate halt to the ongoing physical fencing along the Indo-Myanmar border, citing its traditional community ties. According to an update, the house called for the reinstatement of the FMR, asserting that its removal has severely affected cross-border communities historically living across the boundary.

  • The house also reiterated the need to revamp its Political Affairs Committee (PAC) to uphold the Naga political issue. The advisor of the organisation urged members from Manipur Nagas, Assam Nagas, and Arunachal Nagas to nominate their members for the smooth functioning of the PAC.

  • It appealed to the Government of India and all Naga political groups to let good sense prevail and avoid provocative statements against each other, as a common solution is anticipated for all the Nagas across borders, one that is honourable, acceptable, and inclusive to the Naga people.

  • It was mentioned that the president of the Naga Hoho expressed regret before the house regarding the statement titled "It's time to wrap up the Naga peace talk" released on February 25, clarifying that it was his personal opinion and not the collective position of the house. Therefore, the house resolved to accept the self-reproach of the president of the Naga Hoho's statement in the spirit of forgiveness and moving forward.

  • Meanwhile, the house condemned the Government of India and the Government of Assam for restricting or banning the Naga people from hosting their Naga Hoho federal assembly 2025 at Dima Hasao, Assam. The house stated that this reflects a grave violation of the fundamental democratic values and rights of the Naga people. Therefore, such a blatant act exercised by the competent authority needs to be denounced by right-thinking citizens.

  • It was resolved to urge community leaders, civil society organisations, and the government, particularly the district administration, to take all requisite measures for the restoration of law and order, peace, and harmony in the district. Furthermore, the house also urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene in the ongoing ethnic violence and humanitarian crisis in Manipur and restore peace in the conflict-ridden state.

  • Further, the house resolved to endorse the executive members for crowdfunding for the proposed renovation of the Naga Hoho office to ensure the smooth functioning of the house.

  • It said that, in light of the "current environment of a broken society", the Naga Hoho recognises the urgency of addressing the situation and emphasises that distrust and mutual suspicion are never the solutions.

  • The Naga Hoho also stated that the diverse opinions, demands, and issues within the Naga tribes should be approached through peaceful means, fostering dialogue and understanding among all sections of society.
