A mudslide triggered by heavy rainfall damaged a house in Wokha town, while Elumyo village was cut off after multiple mudslides disrupted road connectivity.
WOKHA — An old kutcha house belonging to Wochamo Ngullie was damaged after a mudslide triggered by incessant rainfall struck Wokha town early Friday morning.
The house, located adjacent to NH-2 (formerly NH-61) at Etsutchukha colony, was reportedly occupied by a family. However, no casualties were reported as the occupants were away on their summer vacation at the time of the incident.
Residents said a vehicle parked along the roadside had slipped during the heavy downpour but did not hit the house. Local volunteers promptly responded and safely moved the vehicle from the affected area.
Nongothung Ngullie, a resident living directly below the site, said the mudslide occurred at around 3:50 am.
Officials from the Wokha district administration later visited the site to assess the damage and monitor the situation. Residents have been advised to remain vigilant as heavy rainfall continues during the monsoon season.

Meanwhile, several mudslides were also reported from Elumyo and Humtso villages in Wokha district on Friday following overnight rainfall.
Road connectivity to Elumyo village was completely cut off, leaving residents stranded and unable to access the district headquarters.
The disruption has created difficulties in transporting patients requiring medical attention and in the movement of essential commodities.
