MOKOKCHUNG — The
Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Promotion Council of India (PCI)
district office for Mokokchung was inaugurated at Arkong Ward by Chumlamo
Humtsoe, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) and administrator of Mokokchung
Municipal Council, on March 17.
The event was attended by Lanuakum Jamir, State Chairman of
MSME PCI Nagaland; Khupsuanlal Hanghal, Chief Manager of State Bank of India
(SBI) Bazaar Branch, Mokokchung; and representatives from the All Ward Union
Mokokchung Town.
In his address, Humtsoe hailed the new office as a “game
changer” for young entrepreneurs, offering them essential guidance to scale
their businesses and explore better market opportunities within the district.
He noted the challenging business environment in Nagaland,
where many ventures falter due to a lack of mentorship and self-learning
limitations. “I hope this office becomes a hub of business activity and a
beacon of guidance, improving the success rate of entrepreneurs and boosting
the local economy,” Humtsoe said.
He urged aspiring business owners to seize the limitless
opportunities provided by MSME support.
Lanuakum Jamir, State Chairman of MSME PCI, described the
office’s launch as a significant milestone in fostering MSME growth in
Mokokchung and beyond. He added that Mokokchung hosts the first office and more
branches in other districts will be established in a phased manner.
He emphasised that MSMEs contribute 30 per cent to India’s
GDP, yet Nagaland lags in manufacturing startups. “This office aims to
transform that narrative,” Jamir said, underscoring MSMEs’ critical role in
employment, wealth creation, innovation, and strengthening local economies.
He assured that the office would provide guidance,
collaboration, and funding solutions to help businesses thrive in the dynamic
market world.
Jamir also announced upcoming seminars, training programmes
and schemes at both national and district levels, expressing confidence that
the office would connect Mokokchung’s entrepreneurs to valuable government
initiatives.
On the occasion, Hanghal raised concerns about the business
community’s limited awareness of banking facilities, despite the presence of 11
public-sector banks and private institutions in the district.
He urged entrepreneurs to leverage banking services by
maintaining proper documentation, credit scores, current accounts, and Income
Tax and GST registrations.
Hanghal also warned against rising cybercrimes and
fraudulent schemes in Mokokchung, driven by pursuits of “easy money” through
illegal gambling and betting. He advised the public to report such scams to
authorities and focus on legitimate financial opportunities.
Highlighting government schemes, he praised the Startup
India initiative for its low-interest support tailored to tribal and female
entrepreneurs, alongside other banking credit services.
Bendangnukshi Jamir introduced the PM Vishwakarma
initiative, set to launch soon through the new office. This programme targets
artisans and craftsmen, offering a seven-day training session with a stipend,
toolkit incentives via e-vouchers, and financial assistance of up to INR 3 lakh
upon completion. He described it as a transformative step to equip talented
individuals with skills, tools, and funding.
