- DIMAPUR — Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), S
Supongmeren Jamir, visited Dimapur, Sukhovi, and Molvom railway stations on
June 10.
- An update stated that during the visit, he held a series of
meetings with officials from Indian Railways and various state government
departments of Dimapur and Chümoukedima districts to assess ongoing railway
development projects in the state.

S Supongmeren Jamir reviews railway development projects
with officials during a meeting at Dimapur Railway Station on June 10.
- At Dimapur Railway Station, Jamir conducted a review meeting
with officials from the Dimapur and Lumding Railway divisions, along with
representatives from the district administration, Nagaland Police, Land Revenue
department, and Nagaland State Transport department of Dimapur district.
- The discussions focused on the status of the Dimapur Railway
Station upgradation project. Officials briefed the MP on ongoing development
work and highlighted several impediments hampering project progress.
- Another key concern raised by railway authorities was the
uncertain future of the Lumding–Furkating Railway Line Doubling Project within
Nagaland. They warned that continued inaction in addressing the challenges
could lead to rerouting the project, potentially bypassing the state entirely.
- At Sukhovi Railway Station, Jamir chaired a meeting attended
by railway officials, the additional deputy commissioner (ADC), and the
additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP), Chümoukedima.
- Officials noted that with both passenger and freight
services currently operating and growing at near optimum capacity, there was an
urgent need for the development of additional support infrastructure, including
the establishment of a permanent police outpost, a livestock screening and
quarantine facility, and the installation of an inner line permit (ILP)
checkpoint with integrated detention and deportation capabilities.
- Other pressing concerns highlighted included the lack of
staff accommodation due to stalled construction of staff quarters and the
dilapidated condition of key road stretches linking the station to the national
highway.
- During the final leg of the visit, Jamir inspected Molvom
Railway Station, where railway officials reported significant progress. With
track laying and core station infrastructure completed, and a substantial
portion of the loading/unloading dock developed, the station is projected to be
commissioned within the next two to three months.
- He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that critical infrastructure
projects in Nagaland receive the attention and support required for timely
completion and assured all possible support and assistance to facilitate their
smooth implementation.
- Lauds unity in NH-2 restoration work
- Meanwhile, Jamir thanked all the stakeholders who rallied
together following the collapse of a portion of National Highway 2 near the
Kisama exit gate.
- In a separate press statement, the MP noted that during his
follow-up visit to the site on Wednesday, he was deeply encouraged to witness
the spirit of unity and swift action demonstrated by various stakeholders.
- He particularly extended gratitude to the Phesama Village
Council, affected landowners, District Administration, the contractor, and the
NHIDCL team for their immediate and coordinated response, which enabled the
commencement of repair work starting June 11.
- “NH-2 is a vital lifeline, facilitating crucial intra- and
inter-state connectivity, and I appreciate the assurance given by NHIDCL
officials and the contractor to complete the restoration work within ten days.
I urge them to remain committed to this stated goal and ensure its timely
realisation,” he said.
