Nagaland MP S Supongmeren Jamir has been elected to serve as a member of AIIMS Guwahati.
DIMAPUR — Member of Parliament from Nagaland, S Supongmeren Jamir, has been elected as a Member of the Lok Sabha to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Guwahati.
According to Lok Sabha Bulletin No. 5973 dated August 7, the election was conducted pursuant to a motion adopted by the Lok Sabha on July 28 for the election of one member of the Lok Sabha to AIIMS, Guwahati.
Two nominations were initially received for the position. Subsequently, one candidate withdrew his candidature. With the number of remaining candidates equal to the number of members to be elected, Jamir was declared duly elected to serve as a member of AIIMS, Guwahati, under the provisions of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Act, 1956.
The election was necessitated following a vacancy arising from the resignation of Pradyut Bordoloi from the Lok Sabha.

Jamir expressed his gratitude to the members of parliament and reaffirmed his commitment to contributing constructively towards the development of AIIMS, Guwahati, and strengthening healthcare infrastructure in the Northeast.
He stated that he would use the opportunity to advocate for accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare, improved medical education, advanced research facilities, and stronger healthcare infrastructure for the people of the region.
As the representative from Nagaland, he added that he would continue to raise issues concerning the Northeast and work to ensure that the region receives due attention in the development of national healthcare institutions.
The Lok Sabha Secretariat subsequently communicated the election to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, on August 10.
