DIMAPUR — Lok Sabha Member of Parliament (MP) from Nagaland, S Supongmeren Jamir, continued his commitment to empowering communities across the state by donating community ambulances to four civil society organisations.
The ambulances, funded through the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS), were presented to Ao Senden, Chakhroma Public Organisation, Eastern Nagaland People's Union Dimapur (ENPUD), and Western Sumi Hoho during a ceremony held at NEO Motors in Diphupar on Wednesday.
MP Jamir, in his address, reaffirmed his dedication to serving the people of Nagaland and underlined the importance of community leadership.
“We have to understand our responsibility,” Jamir said, acknowledging the trust placed in him by the people of Nagaland through his election. “Accordingly, with all this responsibility you have given me by electing me to represent Nagas, we all are in the same boat and we have to work together.”
The MP stressed the importance of unity and collaboration among leaders to bring about meaningful change in the state.
Opposition-less government
He also criticised the current political landscape in Nagaland, especially the functioning of an opposition-less government.

“This is the responsibility of the NGOs: to guide and see that they are the lawmakers of the state who will be respected; but when they are not able to fight for the rights of the people and their constituencies, we have to voice together so that change is achieved," he said.
The MP advocated for Nagaland to uphold its principles and resist undue pressure from any entity, be it NGOs or political figures.
He reminded the gathering that he still has four years remaining in his term and sought continuous engagement with community leaders to ensure that the needs of the people are addressed.
Public welfare
Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, who attended the event as the special guest, commended MP Jamir for his efforts in utilising the MPLADS fund for the benefit of the people.
He acknowledged that many may be unfamiliar with the scheme, highlighting Jamir's role in bringing its impact to light.
Chang recounted that the ENPUD’s initial request upon his arrival as Dimapur DC in 2023 was for the purchase of an ambulance, signifying the fulfilment of a critical need within the community with this donation.

“Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Niuland are mini Nagaland. Although it has been divided into three districts, there is no boundary. We should continue to unite and work together so that we can be an example to other districts. If we share our views, work together with clear aim and objectives, definitely this message will go to other districts and guide them as well,” he remarked.
The DC urged the beneficiaries to make full use of the ambulances for the welfare of the people.
He maintained that development is a gradual process achieved through cooperation and shared goals, calling for collective efforts to fulfil the MP's objectives.
This latest round of ambulance distribution follows a previous donation of six community ambulances to Kohima, Phek, Wokha, Zunheboto, Tseminyu, and Peren districts in November 2024, also funded under the MPLADS scheme.
