Phangnon welcomed the launch of the FCI app and online portal, which have increased transparency in the food distribution system.

She also highlighted the consistent availability of food grains in the state of Nagaland and noted that the Government of India has fully met Nagaland’s requirements with sufficient allocation of rice. It was clarified that while FCI primarily handles rice, wheat-based allocations fall under the Social Welfare department.

She praised the FCI and the state government for maintaining a seamless supply chain, evident in the 100% lifting of allocated food grains over the years. Beneficiaries across the state have been receiving their entitlements as per approved lists, showcasing effective coordination.

Additionally, the MP emphasised the importance of sustaining transparency, efficiency, and coordination to ensure all beneficiaries receive their due support.

Participants were encouraged to further disseminate awareness regarding the roles and responsibilities of the Department of Food and Civil Supplies.

The department’s mandate is to ensure food security through timely transportation and equitable distribution of essential commodities, supported by regular supervision and monitoring of stocks and prices.

A comprehensive PowerPoint presentation was presented, covering key aspects such as FCI's objectives and functions, procurement and distribution systems, food security schemes, IT initiatives, preventive mechanisms, FCI's operations in Nagaland, and its role in ensuring food security in the region.

The SLCC also reviewed various agendas, including foodgrain procurement and distribution, quality control, storage management, transit and storage losses, FCI-state government coordination on TPDS functioning, allocation and distribution of foodgrains for welfare schemes, stock disposal, and matters referred by the Ministry or FCI.

Queries from the participants were addressed during the session, with representatives from the state government and FCI providing relevant clarifications, it added.
