DIMAPUR — In a continued effort to promote accountability and efficient public service, the Phom Students’ Conference (PSC) initiated the second round of departmental inspections across Longleng district.

In a press release on Friday, the PSC stated that the initiative seeks to ensure that government offices are functioning effectively and serving the public interest.

The first phase of inspections, recently completed, uncovered multiple shortcomings in key government departments. While some offices demonstrated commendable performance, others were found to be chronically non-operational or inadequately staffed, the student body stated.

The PSC inspected five departments in the initial round and reported the following findings:

District Child Protection Unit: Despite repeated notices and prior warnings, the DCPU office remained locked and non-functional for over six months. The PSC expressed deep disappointment over the department’s persistent failure to resume operations or provide any explanation.

District Public Relations office: Two staff members—a UDA and an assistant photographer—were found absent from their workstations, and the department was flagged for irregular performance and lack of discipline.

District Soil Conservation office: The department was found closed at the time of inspection, with no staff present. The PSC called on the department to clarify the reasons behind its non-functionality.

District Water Resources department: While the department was recognised for timely service delivery, the PSC noted inconsistent staff presence of establishment branch (LDA) due to the inadequate staff housing as serious concerns.

District Agriculture office: The PSC commended the department for its efficient operations and successful implementation of major projects.

Based on these assessments, the Phom Students’ Conference issued a strong call to action.

The PSC urged underperforming departments to resume full operations within a month, warning that non-compliance may lead to further public scrutiny and follow-up actions. Heads of departments currently out of station were instructed to return to their posting places to ensure proper functioning.

“The PSC remains committed to holding public offices accountable and ensuring that essential services are delivered efficiently and transparently to the people of Longleng district,” the release added.
