KOHIMA — The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has approved four projects in Nagaland during the year 2024-25, for development, construction or upgrade of National Highways, covering a length of 20 km with cost of INR 123 crore.


This was informed by Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in his reply in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.


For Nagaland, during the last four years, a total of 12 projects have been approved for development, construction or upgrade, covering a total length of 214 km, and cost of INR 2,185 crore.

The minister said that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is primarily responsible for development and maintenance of National Highways (NHs) and that development and maintenance of NHs is a continuous process.


Further, works on NHs are accordingly taken up based on the traffic density, connectivity requirement, condition of the road, inter-se priority and synergy with PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan (NMP).


As per data of north-eastern states provided by the minister, in Assam a total of 8 projects were approved for development, construction or upgrade of NHs, covering a length of 223 km at cost of INR 6,382 crore.


In Manipur, three projects were approved covering a length of 140 km at cost of INR 1,356 crore. In Meghalaya, two projects were approved covering 23 km at cost of 590 crore; in Mizoram, one project was approved for INR 7 crore and for the state of Sikkim, one project was approved covering five km and cost of INR 161 crore.


As per the data, no project was approved for Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura for the year 2024-25.
