Monthly DPDB meetings held in Kohima, Meluri

DIMAPUR — The monthly meetings of the Kohima and Meluri District Planning and Development Boards (DPDB) were held on October 14 and October 13 respectively, to review development activities and discuss various district matters.


Kohima: In Kohima, the DPDB meeting took place at the DPDB Hall under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Kohima, B Henok Buchem.


According to a DIPR report, the meeting was attended by Kohima DPDB Chairman and MLA, Kevipodi Sophie, along with other board members and officials.


The board reviewed the minutes of the previous meeting and decided to keep the registration matter of the North East India Assembly of God Society in abeyance due to a pending court case. It further decided to recommend the Papa Foundation and the Nagaland Basha Parishad Society for registration.


An awareness video on road safety, produced by the Kohima District Road Safety Committee in collaboration with the Angami Youth Organisation, was officially launched by MLA Kevipodi Sophie.

The members also deliberated on restricting heavy load vehicles (HLVs) in Kohima throughout the year. It was decided to constitute a study committee comprising representatives from the district administration, engineering departments, legal metrology, transport, and traffic police to study the issue and present their findings in the next meeting.


The board scheduled a mass social work across Kohima on November 1.


District Sericulture Officer Vilhousieno Khro delivered a PowerPoint presentation highlighting the activities of the Sericulture Department in Kohima.


She elaborated on the district’s Eri silkworm farms, processing systems, rearing, and grainage units, noting that Manipur and Nagaland are pioneers in Oak Tasar silkworm rearing due to favourable vegetation. Experiments are underway to enhance production.


Khro outlined the various sectors of sericulture, including pre-cocoon, post-cocoon, and subsidiary sectors, and informed that Naga silk products are available at the Emporium under the Directorate of Sericulture.


DC Henok Buchem commended the District Task Force on Food Safety for its inspection drives across hotels and restaurants in the district and encouraged continued efforts to ensure public health and hygiene.


The meeting concluded with an announcement that the Horticulture Department will deliver a PowerPoint presentation in the next DPDB meeting.


Meluri: In Meluri, the monthly DPDB meeting was held at DB’s Court under the chairmanship of MLA and Advisor for New and Renewable Energy and NSDMA, Z Nyusietho Nyuthe.


After reviewing the previous meeting minutes, the board discussed and recommended the following agendas to the concerned authority for approval: the constitution of a verification committee for the verification of LADP schemes and projects; the setting up of Krishi Vigyan Kendra and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan in Meluri; and the upgradation of the office of the Sub-Divisional Officer of Soil and Water Conservation in Meluri.


The Rural Development Department presented a PowerPoint for both Meluri and Weziho blocks.
