DIMAPUR — The District Health Society, Mon, observed World Pharmacists Day on September 25 at the conference hall of the chief medical officer’s (CMO) office in Mon town on the theme “Think health, think pharmacist.”
An update from CMO stated that the programme began with a prayer said by KL Senenthai Konyak, pharmacist at District Hospital, Mon.
Speaking at the programme, Dr. Aonungdok Tushi Ao, deputy CMO, highlighted the important role played by pharmacists as the first point of contact for patients seeking care. He stressed that pharmacists posted in health facilities must carry out their duties with sincerity.
He also cautioned against misusing professional licenses, stating that medicines should never be dispensed by unqualified salespersons. Dr. Ao emphasised that the responsibility of a pharmacist goes beyond dispensing medicines and also included medicine management, patient counseling and preventive healthcare.

He encouraged pharmacists to enhance their skills and knowledge through higher studies, research and professional development so as to remain well-informed and effective. He further urged them to bring positive changes to the communities where they serve.
Delivering the keynote address, Renthungo Lotha, president of Mon District Pharmacists’ Union, stressed on the role of pharmacists in healthcare, their expertise and their contributions in promoting health literacy. He called for a renewed commitment to advancing pharmacy practices, improving patient care, and strengthening public health.
He reminded that World Pharmacists Day is an opportunity to recognise the vital contributions of pharmacists in the healthcare system. In conclusion, he encouraged everyone to uphold the theme “Think health, think pharmacist” and to work collectively towards building a healthier, safer and better-informed society.
The programme was chaired by Moba Konyak, pharmacist, while brief sharing of experience delivered by Wangyin Konyak, retired pharmacist.
The event concluded with a prayer for all pharmacists by David Konyak, chaplain at District Hospital, Mon.
