Mokokchung Police cautions landlords and property owners against knowingly allowing premises to be used for illegal liquor sale, storage or distribution.
MOKOKCHUNG — Mokokchung Police cautioned house owners, landlords and proprietors of commercial premises against knowingly allowing their properties to be used for the illegal sale, storage, distribution or other activities involving liquor.
In a notice issued on September 30, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mokokchung, Vesupra Kezo, said the warning comes amid intensified enforcement of the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act, 1989, in Mokokchung district.
The police stated that under the NLTP Act, owners or occupiers who knowingly permit their premises to be used for offences under the Act may also face legal action.
Landlords and property owners have been urged to remain vigilant about the use of rented premises and report credible information regarding illegal liquor activities to the nearest police station, Excise authority, ward authority or village council.

The notice stated that if an investigation establishes that a house owner, landlord, tenant or occupier knowingly permitted, facilitated or abetted the use of a premises for the illegal sale, storage or distribution of liquor, appropriate action would be initiated under relevant provisions of the NLTP Act.
It further warned that knowingly manufacturing, storing, supplying, selling, distributing or facilitating the sale of adulterated or spurious liquor resulting in serious injury or death would attract a separate criminal case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and other applicable laws.
Owners, landlords, tenants, sellers, suppliers and others found to have knowingly participated in or facilitated such activities would be prosecuted based on evidence gathered during investigation, the notice stated.
Ward unions, village councils and civil society organisations have also been requested to widely disseminate the notice and extend cooperation towards strict enforcement of prohibition measures and prevention of further loss of life in the district.
