The Mokokchung Municipal Council penalised six head-load workers for demanding inflated bills above official rates.

MOKOKCHUNG — The Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) has taken strict action against a group of head-load workers (muttiahs) for overcharging wages for head-load work within its jurisdiction.
Following a thorough verification and inquiry, the council found that a group of workers had demanded an inflated bill for transporting a light pole. The claim, made by six workers, was significantly higher than the official rates fixed by the MMC.
After a detailed examination, the MMC identified the individuals responsible and imposed penalties on them.

The actions taken were as follows: Vijay (Muttiah Sardar No. 1) was penalised INR 5,000; Ramswarth Yadav (Muttiah No. 342) was penalised INR 1,000; Ahok Mandal (Muttiah No. 350) was penalised INR 1,000; Asarti Mahato (Muttiah No. 143) was penalised INR 1,000; Dinesh Roy (Muttiah No. 113) was penalised INR 1,000; and Biltu Shah (Muttiah No. 76) was penalised INR 1,000.
MMC officials have reviewed the matter thoroughly, and necessary instructions have been issued to prevent a recurrence of such practices in future works undertaken under the jurisdiction of the council.
All concerned workers have been warned to maintain transparency and submit only genuine labour charges as per the approved rates.
