DIMAPUR — The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Mokokchung College of Teacher Education (MCTE), Yimyu, organised a one-day workshop on ‘Communication skills: speak clear, sound confident’ on October 9 at the college premises.


An update from the college stated that the workshop was aimed at enhancing the communication competence of educators and student-teachers with a focus on pronunciation, tone and clarity in speaking confidently.


Delivering the welcome address, the college’s principal, Dr. T Alemla Longkumer, expressed satisfaction for organising the workshop as student-teachers are preparing for their internship.

Underscoring the vital role of effective communication in quality teaching, she said: “Good teachers are clear communicators and good communicators are effective teachers.”


It stated that the resource person and associate professor of Functional English at Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung, T Imsunaro, conducted a series of engaging and interactive sessions designed to help participants speak naturally and confidently in English.


In the opening session titled ‘How we sound when we speak,’ Imsunaro highlighted the significance of sound production, stress and intonation in shaping meaning and perception in spoken communication. She also discussed common pronunciation challenges and shared practical techniques for improvement.


The second session titled ‘It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it,’ focused on the importance of tone, pitch and rhythm in conveying emotions and intent.


The post-lunch session titled ‘Speak English with ease and confidence,’ introduced strategies to overcome hesitation and build self-assurance in public speaking.


Imsunaro has encouraged the participants to cultivate positive speaking habits and develop an authentic communication style suitable for classroom teaching.


Following the technical sessions, a lively Q&A segment was conducted, which was moderated by Sekulu Nienu, assistant professor at MCTE.


The workshop concluded with a valedictory session chaired by Imlikumla Jamir, assistant professor at MCTE, wherein Imsujungla Tzudir, a student-teacher, shared her reflections and key takeaways from the day’s sessions.


It further stated that the one-day workshop proved both insightful and practical, equipping participants with essential tools to improve their spoken English and boost their confidence as communicators and educators.
