DIMAPUR — Modern Higher Secondary School in Kohima conducted a one-day faculty development programme (FDP) on Friday at the school’s conference hall with Fr. Theotimus Lakra, director of Don Bosco Youth and Educational Service, Dimapur, as the resource person.
An update from the school stated that the programme was aimed at enhancing the professional competence of the teaching faculty and focused on three key areas namely developing creative and critical thinking in students, understanding the role of a teacher and workplace etiquettes for peaceful co-existence.
Speaking at the programme, the school’s principal, A Nenia Theresa, appreciated the efforts of the resource person and participants in making the event a success.

It stated that Fr. Lakra has emphasised the need for teachers to foster creativity and critical thinking among students. He also shed light on the vital role of teachers in shaping young minds, not merely as instructors but as guides and mentors.
He also shared valuable insights of life and education, using the example of a simple pencil. He beautifully illustrated the lessons it can teach – self correction through sharpening (learning from mistake), humility and leaving a positive mark. He also discussed on the growing issue of mobile phone addiction among the students.
It stated that the session was marked by meaningful discussions and valuable insight that inspired the faculty to reflect on their teaching practice. It also provided a platform for the teachers to learn and reaffirm their commitment to quality education and holistic development.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Kikatemba Ozukum, head of Science department. It added that the programme proved to be an enriching experience, leaving the teachers motivated to integrate the learning into their classroom practices for the betterment of the students.
