Moakala Magh

DIMAPUR — Drawn to creating purposeful, nature-inspired wellness solutions, Moakala Magh founded Senje Apothecary with a vision to bridge traditional botanical knowledge and modern science, crafting products that are both effective and sustainable.

Her journey has been shaped by a deep interest in the power of natural ingredients to support holistic health and by a belief in ethical sourcing and transparency within the beauty and wellness industry. Building Senje Apothecary has allowed her to bring together innovation, research, and a respect for nature, culture, and community.

Moakala’s goal has always been to redefine wellness through integrity and a genuine connection to the natural world.

In this interview with Eastern Mirror, Moakala shares her journey of building Senje Apothecary, reflects on the value of purpose-driven work, and offers advice to aspiring entrepreneurs.

What inspired you to create natural skincare and wellness products, and what kinds do you offer through Senje Apothecary?

A selection of Senje Apothecary’s wellness products.

The inspiration to create natural, homemade skincare and wellness products came from a desire to return to simplicity and authenticity in self-care. I was deeply moved by how nature provides everything we need to nurture, protect, and restore our skin and overall well-being. Over time, I also noticed a growing disconnect between people and the ingredients they were using daily — so many products were filled with harsh chemicals and lacked transparency.

Senje Apothecary was born out of my passion to change that narrative. I wanted to create a brand that celebrates the purity of natural ingredients — handcrafted with care and backed by knowledge of traditional herbal remedies and modern formulation practices. Each product is designed not just to care for the skin, but to promote a holistic sense of wellness and balance.

Under the Senje Apothecary label, we offer a carefully curated range of products, including:

Hair care — shampoo bars, hair oils, and more

Facial care — soaps, face butters, and nourishing masks

Body care — sugar scrubs and hydrating oils

Wellness products — herbal bath soaks, aromatherapy blends, and massage oils for relaxation and healing

Tea blends — slimming tea, skin and care tea, and others

Every formulation reflects our core values: natural integrity, sustainability, and the belief that beauty and wellness begin with nature.

Maintaining authenticity and quality while scaling is at the heart of everything we do at Senje Apothecary. As the brand grows, our focus remains on staying true to our core values: transparency, craftsmanship, and respect for nature. We achieve this by maintaining close relationships with our suppliers to ensure that every ingredient is ethically sourced, pure, and of the highest standard. Our production process is designed to balance artisanal methods with scalable systems—preserving the integrity of our handcrafted approach while integrating quality control and consistency at every stage.

Each formulation is tested for efficacy, stability, and safety before it reaches our customers. We continue to produce in small, manageable batches to ensure freshness and traceability.

Above all, scaling for us is not about mass production; it’s about sustainable growth. We’re intentional about expanding at a pace that allows us to uphold our standards, nurture our community, and preserve the authenticity that defines Senje Apothecary.

You recently wrote a book on tea — could you tell us what inspired it?

The inspiration behind my book on tea came from my deep appreciation for the ritual, culture, and healing power that tea embodies. Over the years, through my work with Senje Apothecary, I’ve explored the therapeutic properties of herbs and botanicals, and tea became a natural extension of that journey.

I wanted to create something that goes beyond just a beverage — to show tea as a holistic experience that nurtures the mind, body, and spirit. The book is a celebration of tradition, wellness, and mindfulness. It brings together the knowledge of herbalism, the beauty of slow living, and the art of self-care through the simple act of making and sharing tea.

Slimming Tea — one of Senje Apothecary’s best-selling teas.

My goal was to inspire readers to reconnect with nature and with themselves, one cup at a time — and to appreciate tea not only for its flavours but for its ability to bring calm, balance, and intention into daily life.

What kind of career opportunities exist in the natural skincare and wellness industry?

In my experience, the natural skincare and wellness industry offers incredible opportunities for people who are passionate about nature, creativity, and conscious living. When I started Senje Apothecary, I discovered just how dynamic and purpose-driven this field can be — it’s not just about beauty; it’s about wellbeing, sustainability, and community.

There are so many paths within the industry. Some focus on formulation and product development, creating effective natural products that are kind to both people and the planet. Others specialise in herbalism or botanical research, exploring the science and traditional wisdom behind plants. There’s also a growing need for professionals in sustainability, ethical sourcing, and brand development — helping ensure that the industry evolves responsibly.

Beyond that, opportunities exist in marketing, wellness education, and entrepreneurship, especially for those who want to build brands that tell meaningful stories and promote mindful self-care.

What inspires me most is that this industry allows you to align your work with your values. You can build something that not only nurtures others but also contributes to environmental and social well-being. It’s an empowering space for anyone who believes in the harmony between nature, innovation, and purpose.

How do you see the future of herbal and eco-conscious beauty?

I see the future of herbal and eco-conscious beauty as one rooted in integrity and innovation. Consumers are becoming increasingly mindful, seeking products that are natural, transparent, and sustainably made. At Senje Apothecary, we believe the next era of beauty will celebrate the harmony between nature and science — where wellness, sustainability, and authenticity go hand in hand.
