MLA A Nyamnyei Konyak has demanded a fair probe into the fatal Mon-Tobu NST bus accident, sought strict action against those responsible, compensation for victims, and restoration of the bus service.
DIMAPUR — MLA of 48 Moka Assembly Constituency and Chairman of the SDPDB Tobu, A Nyamnyei Konyak, has alleged negligence by the Nagaland State Transport (NST) authorities in connection with the July 9 Mon-Tobu NST bus accident and demanded a fair, transparent and time-bound inquiry into the incident.
The accident occurred on July 9 at Ukha Changkhong village along the Mon-Tobu road, claiming the life of one passenger and leaving several others critically injured.
In a statement, Nyamnyei claimed that the driver was allegedly operating the bus under the influence of illegal intoxicating substances and described the alleged reckless and irresponsible conduct as "completely unacceptable," calling for the strictest action against those found responsible under the law.
The MLA further alleged that the Tobu Area Students' Union had submitted a representation to the NST Station Superintendent, Mon, on May 31, 2025, seeking the replacement of the driver over his alleged repeated indulgence in illegal substances.
However, he claimed that no action had been taken by the department.
Nyamnyei said the incident had deeply shaken the people of the 48 Moka and 55 Tobu Assembly Constituencies and raised serious concerns over passenger safety, accountability and the functioning of the NST.

He urged law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough, impartial and time-bound investigation into the accident and ensure that all those found responsible are held accountable.
"The safety of passengers must never be compromised, and every effort must be made to prevent such tragedies in the future," he said.
The MLA also urged the Nagaland government to provide adequate ex gratia compensation to the family of the deceased and immediate financial assistance to the injured passengers.
Describing the Mon-Tobu NST bus service as a lifeline for the people of Tobu and Moka, Nyamnyei said it provides affordable and dependable transportation for students, patients, government employees, traders and the general public.
He cautioned that a prolonged suspension of the service would severely affect daily life and economic activities in the area.
He appealed to the concerned department and the state government to restore the Mon-Tobu NST bus service at the earliest after ensuring all necessary safety measures are in place.
On behalf of the people of the Tobu and Moka constituencies, Nyamnyei conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family and wished the injured passengers a speedy recovery.
