Sungkomen, Artang, Tongdentsuyong and Mongsenbai reach Mokokchung Inter-Ward Football Tournament 2026 semifinals after quarterfinal wins in Mokokchung.

MOKOKCHUNG — Sungkomen, Artang, Tongdentsuyong and Mongsenbai entered the semifinals of the Mokokchung Inter-Ward Football Tournament (MIWFT) 2026 after winning their respective quarterfinal matches at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung.
In the first quarterfinal of the 7th edition of the tournament, Sungkomen secured a 3–0 win against Penli Ward. Tarepnungsang (7) opened the scoring in the 5th minute, Temsuyanger (23) added the second in the 60th minute, and Tarepnungsang struck again in stoppage time (90+2) to complete the win. Penli exited the tournament without scoring.
In the second quarterfinal, Marepkong faced Artang Ward. Marepkong took the lead just before halftime when captain Imlisanen (11) converted a penalty in the 45+1 minute.
Artang responded in the second half despite difficult, muddy ground conditions. Imtimayang (19) equalised in the 56th minute. Chubalemba (11) then put Artang ahead in the 71st minute, followed by Tongpangkokba (5) in the 73rd minute. Chubalemba added his second in the 86th minute to seal a 4–1 victory.

In the third quarterfinal, Tongdentsuyong edged past former champions Sangtemla via penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in full time. Meyasenba (10) put Sangtemla ahead in the 41st minute, while Atoshe (13) equalised for Tongdentsuyong in the 53rd minute.
With no further goals in regulation and extra time, the match was decided on penalties, where Tongdentsuyong prevailed 5-4 to seal a semifinal berth. Sangtemla, the 4th MIWFT title winners, exited the tournament after a tough game play.
In the fourth quarterfinal, Mongsenbai defeated Arkong Ward 5-2 in a high-scoring match. Arkong, the inaugural champions and two-time title winners, conceded early as Nungshisashi (10) scored in the first minute. Imnatoshi (19) levelled for Mongsenbai in the 22nd minute and added his second in the 35th minute.
Yangersosang (15) extended the lead in the 50th minute, followed by Asish (10) in the 55th minute. Manwong (17) pulled one back for Arkong in the 72nd minute, but Shiponglepba (3) sealed the result with a stoppage-time goal (90+5).
The semifinals will feature Sungkomen vs Artang Ward and Mongsenbai vs Tongdentsuyong. The first semifinal is scheduled for April 1, where Sungkomen will face Artang Ward. Temjentemsu S will attend the match as match patron.
In terms of tournament history, Arkong won the maiden edition in 2019. Following a one-year break due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Artang Ward claimed the 2nd edition title in 2021. Mongsenbai won the 3rd edition in 2022, while Sangtemla lifted the 4th edition trophy in 2023. Arkong reclaimed the title in the 5th edition in 2024, and Dilong emerged as champions in the 6th edition in 2025.
Defending champions Dilong Ward were eliminated in the league stage after losing all three of their matches. Alempang, Yimyu, Kumlong, Lijaba, Lijen and Majakong have also exited the tournament.
