ICAR-NRCM conducted a four-day training programme for Arunachal Pradesh farmers on scientific mithun husbandry.

DIMAPUR — A four-day training programme on “Scientific mithun husbandry for enhanced productivity and profitability” was conducted at ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun (NRCM), Medziphema, from June 2 to the 5th.
According to an update, the programme was attended by 28 mithun farmers from Mirem village, Arunachal Pradesh.
In his inaugural address, Dr. Girish Patil, director, ICAR-NRCM, emphasised the importance of adopting scientific mithun husbandry practices to enhance productivity, improve animal health, and increase farm profitability, thereby strengthening the livelihoods of tribal farming communities.
During the programme, participants were trained on scientific mithun management practices, including breeding, feeding, healthcare, fodder production, housing and entrepreneurship development.
A major highlight was the exposure visit to the institute's Mithun Farm, where farmers gained firsthand experience of scientific rearing and management practices.

Capacity-building programme on agri exports held at Jalukie
The trainees also visited the Khonoma Mithun Conservation Unit, Kohima district, and learned about community-based mithun conservation and sustainable management approaches.
Practical demonstrations on value addition of mithun meat and milk exposed participants to processing techniques and enterprise opportunities for enhancing income through mithun-based products.
The programme concluded with the distribution of certificates to the participants.
Farmers appreciated the practical orientation of the training and expressed their willingness to adopt the scientific technologies and practices demonstrated during the programme.
