APEDA North Eastern Region organised an export promotion programme in Peren to boost exports of king chilli, ginger and turmeric.

DIMAPUR — A capacity-building programme on export promotion of agricultural and horticultural produce from Nagaland, with a focus on king chilli, ginger and turmeric was organised at Jalukie block in Peren district on June 6.
The programme was conducted by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) North Eastern Region in collaboration with the District Horticulture Office, Peren.
According to an update, the programme aimed to create awareness among stakeholders on the role of APEDA in promoting agricultural exports, export opportunities from the region, quality and packaging standards, export documentation requirements, and other related aspects.
Business Development Manager (BDM), APEDA Regional Office, North Eastern Region, Joydev Roy delivered a detailed presentation on products covered under APEDA, the organisation’s role in export promotion, export documentation procedures and APEDA’s financial assistance schemes.
He also demonstrated the process of obtaining Import Export Code (IEC) and Registration-Cum-Membership Certificate (RCMC) through the DGFT portal.
Speaking during the programme, SMS, KVK-Peren, Dr. Prashant Kalal highlighted the importance of pre- and post-harvest management practices for horticultural produce.

He encouraged participants to explore market expansion through processing and exports and advised them to gain a better understanding of export procedures, packaging standards, selection of export-quality produce and APEDA schemes.
Participants were also guided to subscribe to APEDA’s social media platforms, including YouTube and Instagram, through a common QR code. Around 11 participants subscribed to or followed APEDA’s social media channels during the programme.
District Horticulture Officer (DHO), Peren, Dileu Nsarangbe, who chaired the programme, emphasised the need to harness the export potential of locally grown crops.
He encouraged farmers to explore opportunities in processing, value addition and exports to expand their market reach.
The programme began with an opening remark and welcome address by Horticulture Inspector Izaile Kulimbe.
Among those present were Sub-Divisional Horticulture Officer (SDHO) Imkongtontang Longkumer, Assistant Horticulture Officer Ibotui, Horticulture Extension Assistant Pezavitso Haralu, District Field Consultant, APEDA NER, Benathung Lotha, along with farmers from Jalukie FPC, Tening FPO, Peren FPO, Ahthibung FPC and various self-help groups (SHGs).
The participating farmers primarily cultivate king chilli, ginger and turmeric. A total of 84 participants attended the programme.
