- DIMAPUR — The
Minister of Public Works Department (Road and Bridges), G Kaito Aye, visited
the landslide-affected stretch of National Highway (NH) 29 at Phesama, near
Kisama Heritage Village, to assess the ongoing restoration efforts on Monday.

- According to an update,
accompanied by department officials including the chief engineer of the Public
Works Department (Road and Bridges), superintending engineer and executive
engineer of the South Division, the minister took stock of the damage and
progress in restoring the interstate highway.
- During the visit, he lauded
the efforts of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation
Limited (NHIDCL) and contractors, urging them to expedite the restoration work
with full dedication. He emphasised that NH 29 serves as a crucial interstate
route and a lifeline for Manipur, requiring prompt and efficient action.
- Officials informed that
jungle clearing for an alternate road alignment is underway with the
cooperation of local landowners. Meanwhile, the exit roads of Kisama Heritage
Village have been opened as a temporary passage for light vehicles.

- The chief engineer further
updated that the Chakhabama-Kezocha-Kidima route, connecting to Pudunamei in
Manipur, remains operational for the movement of essential goods vehicles
during the NH 29 blockade. This detour has been crucial in maintaining supply
chains amid the disruption.
- The minister informed that
the government is prioritising the restoration of NH 29 and urged all
stakeholders to cooperate for swift completion.
