Minister Along unveils new academic building at MCTE

DIMAPUR — The Mokokchung College of Teacher Education (MCTE), Mokokchung, inaugurated its new academic building on Friday, with Minister for Higher Education and Tourism Temjen Imna Along as the special guest.

Addressing the inaugural programme, Along described MCTE as a major achievement for Nagaland and expressed hope that the institution would attract students from both within and outside the state to pursue quality education, according to a DIPR report.

Highlighting the government’s plans to further strengthen higher education infrastructure, the minister said the Higher Education department would undertake several development projects, including a 40-bed girls’ hostel at MCTE under the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-USHA), a new Model College at Mangkolemba, and other projects across various districts.

Along also appealed to the Naga tribes to unite around a common agenda for the betterment and development of the state.

Paying tribute to teachers, both past and present, he described them as “soldiers” who sacrifice their time, hands and thoughts to shape students and build the future of communities.

Earlier, the formal programme began with the unveiling of the inaugural plaque by the minister. The programme was chaired by Sekulu Nienu, Assistant Professor, MCTE, and commenced with a dedicatory prayer by Rev. Temsuwati, pastor of MTBA.

Dr. T Alemla Longkumer, Principal of MCTE, delivered the salutatory oration, followed by a special song, “Tangula Tasen (New Breath),” presented by student-teachers.
