Yanthungo Patton visited landslide-hit areas in Mon and assured affected residents of government assistance for restoration and relief efforts.
DIMAPUR — Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of Home and Border Affairs, Yanthungo Patton, visited the landslide-affected areas of Defence Colony, Thamnan Ward and Techa Ward in Mon town on Friday to assess the situation.
According to a DIPR report, Patton was accompanied by Advisor Sethrongkiu Sangtam, MLAs Naiba Konyak, Limaonen Chang and Manpon Konyak, ADGP Renchamo Kikon and IGP VZ Angami.
During a briefing meeting held at the deputy commissioner’s conference hall in Mon, Patton described the July 19 landslide as an unfortunate natural disaster and said it was unprecedented in Nagaland in recent times.
He assured the affected people that the state government would extend all possible assistance for the restoration of Mon.
He said the government would approach the Centre for early restoration based on the verification reports submitted by the district administration, police, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) and civil society organisations.
Patton also appealed to the public not to believe or circulate unverified information on social media.
He said the state government and the central team had visited and verified the affected areas and assured that necessary assistance would be provided.

He expressed gratitude to the rescue teams led by the district administration and police, along with SDRF Mon, KU, KNSK, KSU and volunteers, for their efforts and sacrifices during the rescue operations.
Deputy Commissioner of Mon, Wennyei Konyak, chaired the meeting and delivered the welcome address.
He thanked Patton and his team for visiting the affected areas and presented a video documenting the landslide that occurred on the morning of July 19.
Konyak expressed optimism that Mon would be rebuilt with the support and assistance of the state government.
