Mimi Students’ Union begins 57th general conference with Tsupithong Yimchunger urging cultural preservation and responsible technology use.

DIMAPUR — The three-day 57th general conference of the Mimi Students’ Union (MSU) commenced on Saturday in Mimi village, Kiphire, with its inaugural programme held on the theme “Educate, empower, evolve”.
According to an update, the programme was attended by Tsupithong Yimchunger, economics and statistics officer, Directorate of School Education, Nagaland, as the special guest.
He congratulated High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) and Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) achievers from Mimi village, with special mention of Resomong, the HSLC topper from Mimi, and Kamjila, the HSSLC achiever.
In his address, Tsupithong shared his experience of visiting over 800 villages across the state and expressed concern over rising mortality rates, demographic imbalance, and the closure of government schools, referring to developments since PCP 1974.
Emphasising cultural preservation, he noted that responsible population growth is vital for safeguarding traditions. He also highlighted the importance of inter-community collaboration and skill development in the modern era and cautioned students against mobile phone addiction, urging them to use technology responsibly and productively.

The inaugural programme was attended by R Achimpong, village council chairman (VCC) of Mimi; gaon burahs (GBs); village council members; the executive chairman of the Yimkhiung Tribal Council (YTC); the pastor of Mimi Baptist Church; students, elders, and prominent leaders from Mimi village and neighbouring areas.
The programme began with a welcome address by Yakso M, president, MSU, who outlined the vision of the union and urged students to uphold unity, discipline, and a strong sense of social responsibility.
Makezho, executive chairman of the Yimkhiung Tribal Council, and Throngmuli, president of the Mimi Circle Joint Council, also spoke at the event.
As a mark of respect and encouragement, gifts were also presented to the eldest male and female members of the village.
