Mhathung Yanthan inaugurates the ‘Naga Organic Outlet’ by cutting a ribbon at 7th Mile, Chümoukedima, on Monday.

DIMAPUR — Advisor for Agriculture Mhathung Yanthan inaugurated the ‘Naga Organic Outlet’ at 7th Mile, Chümoukedima, near the LPG Bottling Plant, under the Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North-eastern Region (MOVCD-NER), on Monday.

According to an update, the initiative aims to promote various agricultural organic produce, display processed food outlets by providing services to consumers, and promote healthy and sustainable agriculture.

Speaking on the occasion, Yanthan stated that since the launch of MOVCD-NER in 2015, many farmer producer organisations (FPOs) and farmer producer companies (FPCs) have been formed and have undertaken numerous promotional initiatives and activities not only in the state but also in the northeastern region.

He also reminded that while supporting the farmers through this scheme, there should be an assessment of how much the state has been capitalised in terms of benefits. He added that the investment and outcomes need to be examined.

Stressing the potential in organic farming and packaging, Yanthan said that Nagaland has a great deal of potential in organic farming and therefore encouraged capitalising on this potential through market linkages.

He stated that branding and packaging labels in Nagaland have improved to quality standards; however, they need to be aggregated and increased in volume so that Nagaland can also supply outside markets.

The advisor further called upon all stakeholders, departments, service providers, FPOs, FPCs, local entrepreneurs, and farmers to come together to create a state of sustainability through the production of more organic agricultural produce.

In the programme, a speech on the importance of the Naga Organic Outlet was also delivered by the Director of Agriculture, Sanuzo Nienu.
