Advisor Mhathung Yanthan attends ICAR AGM in New Delhi, advocating for agricultural infrastructure and research institutes in Nagaland.

DIMAPUR — Advisor for Agriculture Mhathung Yanthan attended the 97th Annual General Meeting of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Society in New Delhi on August 18.
The event, held under the chairmanship of Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, was attended by union and state ministers from across the agriculture and allied sectors, according to an update.
In his speech, the Yanthan raised key issues concerning agricultural research, education, and extension in Nagaland and the Northeastern region.
These included establishing a national or regional institute for hill agriculture and climate-resilient farming, preferably in Nagaland, and establishing colleges of horticulture, fisheries, natural farming, and food technology in Nagaland under the Central Agricultural University (CAU) framework.
Yanthan also called for strengthening the recruitment and infrastructure of all 11 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), including the ICAR Nagaland Centre at Medziphema, and expediting new KVKs in the newly created districts.
The Advisor urged ICAR to accord greater institutional priority to Nagaland’s farmers, youth, and agricultural potential, in keeping with the unique needs of hill agriculture.
