  • Govind Mohan and Tapan Kumar Deka with other officials during a visit to an IDPs camp in Churachandpur district on Monday.

  • IMPHAL — A high-level team of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) led by Home Secretary Govind Mohan and Director (Intelligence Bureau) Tapan Kumar Deka, visited two relief camps in Manipur's Churachandpur district on Monday.

  • The team was accompanied by Manipur Chief Secretary PK Singh, Director General of Police Rajiv Singh and Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur Dharun Kumar S and other officials.

  • After landing at the helipad of 36 Assam Rifles headquarters in the hill town, the team went to a relief centre at Dorcas Veng, New Lamka, where the Union home secretary inaugurated a creche facility for children and a women’s tailoring programme, both aimed at supporting and empowering women and children residing in the camp.

  • At both the camps, the central team interacted with the internally displaced persons (IDPs), reviewed the available infrastructure, inspected relief materials and facilities, and assessed the overall condition of the camps.

  • The team listened to the concerns and suggestions of the caretakers of the IDPs and assured them of continued government support.

  • Fifteen students who passed the High School Leaving Certificate and Higher Secondary Examinations 2025 from the two camps —five from Dorcas Veng and ten from Sadbhavna Mandap, Tuibong—were felicitated and certificates of appreciation given by the Union Home Secretary.

  • Meanwhile, the flood situation in Manipur has worsened after fresh breaching of Imphal and Kongba rivers at four more locations, leading to fresh flooding of a large portion of residential areas even though the rain stopped since last night.

  • So far 56,516 people have been affected and at least 10,477 houses across 174 localities damaged as per latest Relief and Disaster Management report.
