- IMPHAL — In a
significant political development, a 10-member delegation of ruling party
legislators in Manipur met Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Tuesday, expressing
their readiness to form a popular government in the state.
- BJP MLA Thokchom Radheshyam, speaking after the meeting,
stated that 44 MLAs had conveyed their collective willingness to restore a
government that reflects the will of the people and addresses the current
situation in Manipur. “We discussed various aspects needed to resolve the
ongoing issues in the state,” he said.
- Asked about the Governor’s response, Radheshyam said the
Governor took note of the key points raised during the meeting, particularly

- When questioned about when they would formally stake claim
to form the government, the BJP legislator clarified that the final decision
lies with the party’s central leadership. “As a national party, we will follow
the direction of the central leadership,” he stated.
- The delegation comprised seven BJP MLAs—Th Radheshyam
(Heirok), Dr Y Radheshyam (Hiyanglam), L Rameshwor (Keirao), Kh Raghumani
(Uripok), Th Arunkumar (Wangkhei), P Brojen (Wangjing Tentha), and K Robindro
(Mayang Imphal); two National People’s Party (NPP) MLAs—Sheikh Noorul Hassan
(Kshetrigao) and Janghemlung Pamei (Tamenglong); and one Independent MLA, Sapam
Nishikant from Keishamthong.
- This marks the first formal political interaction with the
Governor since Chief Minister N Biren Singh resigned on February 9, 2025. The
state has been under President’s Rule since February 13, after the ruling BJP
failed to nominate a successor.
