DIMAPUR — The Eco Club of MGM College in Dimapur organised a debate on the topic “Should we ban single-use plastic completely?” on August 30 in the college auditorium.
According to a press release, the event witnessed participation from students who presented compelling arguments both for and against the motion.
Speakers in favour of the ban highlighted the devastating impact of plastic on the environment, citing pollution of land and water bodies, hazards to wildlife, and long-term ecological imbalance.
They advocated adopting sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives as a moral responsibility toward future generations.

On the other hand, participants opposing the motion underscored the convenience, affordability, and large-scale employment linked with plastic manufacturing.
They proposed practical solutions such as gradual reduction, efficient recycling, and stricter regulations instead of an outright ban, emphasising the socio-economic consequences of a complete prohibition.
After careful evaluation by the judges, the team for the motion, represented by Tunali, Alex, and Tokupu, was declared the winner.
