MOKOKCHUNG — The 27th Mokokchung Town Assembly Constituency (AC) Youth Organisation’s 5th Football Tournament-cum-Penalty Shootout was kicked off by Minister for Rural Development and State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD), Metsubo Jamir, at the Multi-Sports Complex, Mokokchung, on August 29.
The event also spotlighted a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative by Honda India Foundation, offering 100 selected youths training and guaranteed job placements in global hospitality hubs.
In the penalty shootout, six teams, comprising five units and one AC team, will compete in the women’s category, while in the men’s category, five units, the AC Parent Body, the AC Youth, and the PA and PS team will vie for the title.

Organisers further announced that the main football tournament is set to commence on September 1 at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, where competition will unfold in a knockout format, with last year’s champion, Mongsenbai Ward, defending their title against a formidable lineup vying for the coveted trophy.
Five wards under the 27th Mokokchung Town AC will be participating in the main football tournament.
Earlier, Jamir, in his address, highlighted the challenges faced by youths in securing employment, noting that only five out of every hundred job seekers succeed due to intense competition.
He also presented the Honda India Foundation CSR initiative as a game-changing opportunity for the 27th Mokokchung Town AC.
The Honda India Foundation CSR is an initiative of Jamir. Under this programme, 100 carefully selected youths will undergo eight weeks of training in hotel management, with guaranteed placements in hospitality hubs such as Japan and Dubai, complete with company-sponsored passports and visas.
“This CSR initiative is a golden opportunity for our youths to secure employment abroad,” Jamir declared, urging the trainees to approach the programme with utmost dedication.
Saying that their placement performance matters, he told the trainees that their success would pave the way for more expanded opportunities, potentially inspiring similar initiatives across Nagaland state.
Jamir further noted that while hundreds applied for the programme, only 100 were chosen, and he expressed confidence that the trainees would transform into skilled professionals during the course of the eight weeks of training.
“If this programme takes off successfully, it will serve as an eye-opener for the entire state,” he added, envisioning its broader impact on youth employment.
