MOKOKCHUNG — The last league phase of the Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA) Trophy 2025 saw six teams competing for qualification to the quarterfinals at Imkongmeren Sports Complex on Saturday.


Team Gilgal defeated Sports Society Soyim (SSS) 2-1 to secure the top position in Pool A, with both teams advancing to the next round.


Super Seniors FC won 2-0 against Intermingle to move ahead from Pool B, while Doyang Strikers topped Pool C with a 3-1 win over NU Lumami. Defending champions Konyak Students’ Union Mokokchung (KSUM) were eliminated after consecutive losses.

In Pool A, Gilgal’s Merensang Ponger scored in the 14th minute. SSS captain Moatemsu equalised in the 44th minute, but Tongpang Jamir’s goal in the 48th minute gave Gilgal the win and first place in the group, while SSS finished second.

In Pool B, Super Seniors FC needed a win to progress. Intermingle missed a first-half penalty when Lanu shot wide. In the second half, Achi controlled play for the Seniors, leading to goals from Nythung in the 51st minute and Temjenmeren in the 66th minute, confirming Super Seniors’ qualification.


In Pool C, Doyang Strikers defeated NU Lumami 3-1. Ngilei gave Lumami the lead in the 6th minute, but Yami scored twice in the 11th and 15th minutes to turn the match. Eshong added a third goal in the 34th minute. Despite several chances in the second half, Lumami were unable to respond.

The quarterfinal fixtures of the MDFA Trophy 2025 will begin on October 20 at 12:00 noon at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung. The first quarterfinal will feature team Gilgal against Super Seniors FC, followed by Doyang Strikers FC facing Sanpang Riju SC.
