MOKOKCHUNG — Intermingle Club held favourites Telongjem FC to a hard-fought 0-0 draw, while Doyang Strikers registered a commanding 4-0 win over Thunderbolt FC in the 27th Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA) Trophy league round matches played at Imkongmeren Sports Complex on Friday.

The opening fixture between Telongjem and Intermingle turned into a tactical battle from the start, with both sides trading chances but failing to break the deadlock. Telongjem pressed high and created several opportunities, yet Intermingle’s disciplined defence stood firm to deny them throughout the match.

“Our lads were exceptional, weathering that relentless press like champs,” said Agassi Longchar, president of Intermingle. Telongjem manager Tiakumzuk acknowledged the opposition’s defensive display, saying, “Intermingle’s defence was rock-solid—we carved out four golden chances but couldn’t bury it.”

The result takes Telongjem to four points in Pool B with a +3 goal difference, keeping them in contention for a knockout berth. Intermingle, meanwhile, will need to beat Super Senior FC by four or more goals to top the group or secure a draw to finish second.

In the second match of the day, Doyang Strikers dominated Thunderbolt FC 4-0. Horam opened the scoring in the 8th minute, setting the tone for a one-sided contest. After the break, Doyang’s attacking unit took full control as Toka Achumi doubled the lead in the 52nd minute, Ganghui made it 3-0 six minutes later, and Horam sealed his brace in the 67th minute.

The result leaves Thunderbolt FC in a difficult position, still searching for their first win in the tournament.
